Why ‘moving to think’?

Sir Ken Robinson retells the story of Jillian Lynn, a world renowned choreographer who, if not for an insightful specialist, would likely have been diagnosed with a learning disability as a young child. Jillian and her mother went to visit this specialist about Jillian’s supposed ‘learning disability.’ After a certain point, the specialist told Jillian that she should remain in the room, and they (he and her mother) would return momentarily. As they left the room, he turned on the radio. From right outside the oak wood paneled door, the couple peered in and could see Jillian, moving to the music the moment they left the room. The specialist turned to Mrs. Lynn and said, ‘Jillian is not sick. She’s a dancer.’

Today, in speaking with Sir Ken Robinson, Jillian told him, ‘I need to move to think.’

How we communicate, how we express ourselves, and how we process information is all intertwined with our entire being; it is very personal and individual. How we do all these things is very important to Public Relations professionals. So, a mixture of current events, public relations literature, and takeaways for communicating effectively, and voilĂ …moving to think.

If you have time, I suggest watching Sir Robinson’s entire speech from TED, though, if you don’t, you can find some quick takeaways in my blog.
